It’s Time for a Mental Reset (My 10-Year Reflection)🚀
You ever get that feeling like you just need to hit the reset button? Yeah, that was me when I turned 28 on March 15th. I had this deep urge to reflect on the last decade of my life—from joining the Navy at 18 to diving into real estate, jumping between jobs, chasing different ventures, and finally, feeling like I found myself—at 28 years old.
Bill Gates once said, “People overestimate what they can do in a year and underestimate what they can do in ten years.” That hit me hard. Because looking back, I realized this past decade wasn’t just about what I did—it was about who I became. And the hardest thing a person can do? Figure out who they truly are. Some people spend half their lives trying to answer that question. Some never do.
The Journey to Finding Myself 🔎
The Navy was the first big piece of my puzzle, taking up five years of my life. And honestly? I loved it. I thrived. Won awards. Climbed the ranks. Became Sailor of the Year. But deep down, I knew this wasn’t my final destination. I felt called to something bigger. Something harder. Something that demanded I step into my true purpose.
So, I jumped. (Metaphorically, of course.)
I left the Navy and went back home to Detroit, where I became a real estate agent, teaming up with my rich uncle. On the surface, things were great—I was making moves, meeting people, and looking successful. But inside? I felt drained. Real estate is a high-demand, high-social-pressure game, and while I love helping people, this wasn’t how I wanted to do it.
The Moment Everything Clicked 💡
After two and a half years of grinding in real estate, I had to get real with myself. What do I truly love? What am I called to do?
The answer was simple:
✅ Write
✅ Speak
That’s it. That’s my lane. That’s my purpose. The best part? Unlike real estate or the military, these passions don’t demand constant social interaction, hard selling, or energy-draining commitments. I can create at my own pace. I can focus on inspiring, teaching, and sharing my journey authentically—without feeling like I’m forcing anything.
How This Helps YOU Reset 🧠
If you’re feeling lost, stuck, or like life isn’t aligning the way you hoped, here’s the move:
- Take time to reflect on your past 10 years (or 5, or even just 1).
- Be brutally honest about what you love and what drains you.
- Let go of what isn’t serving you and lean into what excites you.
The moment you do this, you give yourself permission to start fresh. Today. Not next year. Now.
