Are You Already Living in the Good Old Days?
“I wish there was a way to know you’re in the good old days before you’ve actually left them.” – Andy Bernard
Man… the first time I heard that quote, it hit me deep.
Sure, it came from a TV show, The Office, but don’t let that fool you. The realness of it? 🔥 Unmatched.
And how many of us get caught in this loop?
Reminiscing. Overthinking. Romanticizing the past like it was the peak of our story.
I know I have. More times than I’d like to admit.
I remember when I first got into the Navy, I was bragging to one of my soon-to-be brothers, Eric, about how amazing high school was. I went on and on about how cool I was (or at least thought I was 😅), how long my hair used to be, how many dope friends I had.
Then I said, “You know, high school just might’ve been the prime of my life.”
And Eric — thank God he did — looked at me and said:
“Bro… if high school was the prime of your life, your life is going to suck.”
I paused… and just started laughing. Because dang, he was right. I sounded ridiculous.
From that moment, I never said that again.
But it didn’t stop there.
When I got out of the Navy, I caught myself doing it again. I started thinking, “My time in the military might’ve been my…”
And I stopped myself.
Yeah, high school was dope. My military chapter was a blessing. But I was in a new season. A new chapter. One that had just as much — if not more — potential than the last.
But only if I allowed it to.
Only if I could praise God for the past 🙏🏾, but leave it in the past… and lock into the now.
And that’s exactly what I did.
But too many of us stay trapped in that loop. Giving the past all the credit — and failing to appreciate the present moment for what it is:
A gift.
These might already be your good old days… you just haven’t realized it yet.
So don’t wait to miss it.
Don’t wait to label it later.
Give this chapter the love it deserves.
Because this moment—right here, right now—is all we truly have.
Embrace it, hero.
Because now is your time to shine ✨
Brighter than ever before.
