Boredom Is the Real Enemy (Not Failure)
Have you ever hit that point in life where you’re doing everything right? Reading the books, hitting the gym, staying consistent with your craft, your business, your brand—but something still feels… off?
Same here. I’m there right now.
Lately, my days have started to feel repetitive. The motivation’s not flowing like it used to. I’m sticking to the plan, but I keep asking myself: What is all this even for?
But then I remembered something I read in Atomic Habits by James Clear that hit me hard:
“The greatest threat to success is not failure, but boredom… We get bored with habits because they stop delighting us.”
💥 That line always stuck with me.
Even knowing that, though, it’s still hard to keep moving when things feel stale. It hasn’t gotten easier. But here’s what I’ve learned:
When that feeling hits, I don’t quit. I don’t scrap the plan and start over.
Instead, I pull over.
I take a break. Regroup. Then get back on the path I chose.
Because real talk?
The thing that’s slowed me down the most in life hasn’t been hard times… it’s boredom. 🧠
How many of us get “bored” with our jobs—jobs we once prayed for?
Or we feel like we need a “change” from the life we used to dream about—family, house, car, stability.
But it’s not that life is broken. We’re just craving novelty.
Another quote from Atomic Habits wrecked me:
“Men desire novelty to such an extent that those who are doing well wish for a change as much as those who are doing badly.” — Machiavelli
👀 Read that again.
Sometimes we trick ourselves into thinking we need a big change… when really, we just need to stay the course.
So here’s my word to you, hero:
Take a break if you need to. Catch your breath. Detour if you must.
But don’t abandon your path just because it got boring.
Keep walking.
Because if you keep starting over… you’ll keep ending up in the same place. 🔁
Stay locked in.
I’m with you.
Peace.
