How I Hit My First 1,000 Subscribers on YouTube in Less than 90 days
Yes, I really did it. And yes, I’m absolutely clickbaiting you. 😆
I hit 1,000 subscribers on YouTube in roughly 90 days or less. But before you get too excited, let me be real with you—this article isn’t what you think.
Sure, I’ll break down exactly how I did it. But I’m also going to be fully transparent and explain why this may not be the best strategy to run with long-term. Will it get you to 100 subscribers? Absolutely. But will it give you the results you actually want? Probably not.
Let’s dive in.
The Two Methods That Got Me to 1,000 Subscribers
I kept it as simple as possible. There were only two strategies I used to hit my goal:
1. Asking Everyone I Knew to Subscribe 📲
I went all in. I reached out to everyone I knew—family, friends, old coworkers, random people I hadn’t talked to in years. I sent out text messages, DMs, you name it.
Out of the 200-300 people I reached out to, about 90 subscribed. That’s a solid conversion, right? But here’s the thing…
Subscribers don’t mean views.
Most of them subscribed just to support me. But were they actually watching my videos? Eh, not really.
2. Running Google Ads 💰
No, I didn’t buy subscribers. (Well… maybe I did in a roundabout way.)
Instead, I boosted my videos through Google Ads to get them in front of more people. And it worked. My subscriber count started rising rapidly. 🚀
I was spending about $1-3 per day on ads, and on average, that was bringing in 10 new subscribers per day. You can do the math—it’s easy to see how I hit 1,000 in under 90 days.
But again… were these people actually watching my content?
The Harsh Reality… Subscriber Counts Mean Nothing Without Engagement
Here’s the truth: The real question isn’t how to get subscribers—it’s how many of them actually care about your content.
For me? Maybe 7 out of my 1,000 subs were clicking on my videos. And out of those 7, at least 3 were my wife, my best friend, and my rich uncle. So realistically? That’s a hard no on real engagement.
I had a subscriber count that looked good… but an audience that wasn’t actually watching my content.
So I made a pivot.
The Better Strategy? Organic Growth & Quality Content 🎯
Instead of focusing on numbers, I started focusing on something way more important:
- Making better videos—Higher quality, better storytelling, and actual value for my audience.
- Generating organic traffic—Focusing on creating content that naturally attracts viewers, not just forcing subs.
I don’t think you’ll find this strategy in your typical “How to Grow on YouTube” handbook.
Why?
Because it’s common damn sense.
If you want real growth, it’s not about hacking the system—it’s about actually building an audience that cares.

I’m out, hero. Peace. 🦸🏽♂️
